Today’s NBA has seen a significant change due to the implementation of advanced statistics. With the power of statistical modeling, teams are able to see what the most productive plays and shots are. This has led to lots of change in playstyle and lineups.
The newest example of this is the Houston Rockets. This teams flys in the face of the typical lineup played in professional basketball. Most NBA teams consist of a mix of short and tall players. The current Houston Rockets play no players taller than 6’7” which is something that has not been done in the NBA in almost 70 years.
The reason for this new play style is due to the General Manager Daryl Morey and the Head Coach Mike D’Antoni. Through advanced statistics, they have built a team that plays to their players strengths while keeping their offense and defense efficient.
In the shot chart below you can see how the Rockets only shoot the most efficient shots on the court, the three point shot and shots within five feet of the basket.
